Alnus rugosa

Speckled Alder 

Grows to 20 feet in large, bushy clumps. Thicket forming shrub found near streams, lakeshores, wet meadows, swamps and other moist areas. Grows well in poor conditions. Fixes nitrogen. Good bird habitat and food source. Full sun but tolerates light shade.  Moist to wet soil.
