Celastrus scandens

American Bittersweet

A high-climbing or sprawling woody vine. Small, greenish flowers are followed by clusters of showy, orange capsules that split open to expose a red, berry-like fruit. Fruit eaten by birds. Tolerates alkaline soil.  Sun to partial sun. Moist to dry soil.
