Rhus typhina

Staghorn Sumac

Grows to 20 feet and spreads to form colonies. Upright, open habit with fuzzy stems.  Yellow flowers are followed by large, upright clusters of red fruit that are eaten by birds. Common in old pastures and open areas. Can be aggressive and hard to remove once established. Good for erosion control. Incredible orange to red fall color. Tolerates poor conditions. Full to partial sun.  Dry to moist, well drained soil.
