Grows 45 to 65 feet. Open crowned tree often with several trunks growing out from the base. Found in wet soil along streams and at the margins of ponds, lakes and fresh-water tidal rivers. Long, narrow and tapering leaves on yellow-green twigs. Full sun. Wet to moist soil.

Spreading shrub 2 to 5 feet high with similar width. Often found as a coastal buffer at sands edge. Fragrant, pink blossoms early to mid summer followed by showy red rose hips. Colorful fall foliage. Full to partial sun. Moist to dry, well drained soil. Drought tolerant.

3 to 5 feet with similar spread. Fragrant, pink flowers in summer followed by red rose hips in the fall that attract birds. Found in swamps, freshwater marshes and wet areas. Prefers full sun. Wet to moist soil.

Staghorn Sumac

Grows to 20 feet and spreads to form colonies. Upright, open habit with fuzzy stems.  Yellow flowers are followed by large, upright clusters of red fruit that are eaten by birds. Common in old pastures and open areas. Can be aggressive and hard to remove once established. Good for erosion control. Incredible orange to red fall color. Tolerates poor conditions. Full to partial sun.  Dry to moist, well drained soil.

Fragrant Sumac

Grows 3 to 6 feet and 4 to10 feet wide. Found on dunes, open dry woods and banks. Pale yellow flowers emerge with leaves. Leaves are strongly scented and have red-burgandy fall foliage. Red clustered seed pods on female plants. Good for erosion control. Full to partial sun.  Moist to dry, well drained soil.

Grow 4 to 10 feet high and 3 to 5 feet wide. Found in wooded and open swamps and along stream banks. White to light pink summer blooms with a clove like scent.  Reddish fall color. Sun to light shade. Moist to wet soil.

Grows 6 to 8 feet. A round spreading shrub with white flowers in spring and edible, purple fruit in fall.  Makes a great jam. Found along beaches and sand dunes. Good for birds. Full sun. Sandy, well-drained soil. Salt and drought tolerant.
